One of Hootsuite’s Social Media predictions of 2021 is that marketers should start to consider baby boomers in any future strategies.

The lost generation of 55 – 64 year olds have not only got to grips with Zoom calls during lockdown, but they’ve also discovered new brands through social media.

Pre-Covid, these consumers were usually targeted through print and TV advertising but more and more brands are now finding that social media advertising needs to be added to the mix. Hootsuite’s own research has discovered that 70% of internet users age 55 – 64 have bought something online in the past month.

Most marketing and advertising professionals are under 40. They can sometimes forget about older generations when creating marketing campaigns. It’s time they started to recognize the buying power and social savvy of older consumers.
